Health Insurance for MBA Members

Serving those who serve Minnesota — now including your health coverage.

Most MBA members have health insurance through their employer, and if that coverage works for you, keep it. This benefit is for the members it doesn’t reach.

  • Members who retire before 65 and have years to bridge before Medicare
  • Spouses who aren’t on an employer plan
  • Township officers and part-time staff whose service doesn’t come with coverage attached
  • Members between jobs
  • Families with a child
    aging off a parent’s plan at 26

For all of them, the MBA Board has endorsed Apollo Health Insurance, a licensed brokerage, to serve as the association’s health coverage partner.

What that gets you:

  • A licensed agent of your own. Not a call center. The same person at enrollment, at renewal, and when something goes wrong.
  • Every option compared, not one. Apollo is appointed with the carriers that matter in this state, and they’ll show you what you qualify for side by side — including options most people never hear about.
  • A claims team that works for you. If a claim is denied or a bill looks wrong, Apollo’s in-house claims department takes it on. That’s after the sale, not before it.
  • No cost. Apollo is paid by the carriers, the same as any broker. Your premium is identical whether you use them or not.

Some plans have a deadline. Most don’t.

Marketplace coverage — the kind where your premium is based on household income — can only be started during open enrollment, which runs 1 November through 15 January, with a 15 December cutoff for coverage beginning 1 January.

Outside that window you’d need a qualifying life event such as retirement, job loss, marriage or a move.

Several of the other plans Apollo offers have no enrollment window at all. You can apply in March, or July, and start coverage the following month. If you’re reading this outside of open enrollment, it’s still worth a call.
